Chamomile is a small plant, full of flowering browses of Chamomile that are also known as “Matricaria”. Another plant of this family is called Roman chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis) which is the same as chamomile in usage and chemical compound. 
Chamomile is about 10 to 30 cm. high, and is fragrant. Its stem is whitish green and cylindrical, with downy small leaves. 
It grows in grasslands and near natural pools of different regions of Europe such as France and Italy. Chamomile flowers between the months of June and August. 

Developed kinds of this plant are preferred to its wild kinds. Two kinds of this plant are used: 
1- The breed that has two different kinds of flower, which are white and yellow. 
2- The breed with only one kind of flower, which is white. 

The second breed of chamomile has more medical usage. 
Seed or parts of the plant that have root are used for planting of chamomile. The land on which chamomile is being plant should not be permanently humid, and in a region that very cold or hot weather does not harm the plant. 
Attention should be paid during the harvest of chamomile. After the harvest, chamomile should be spread out on pieces of cloth until it becomes dry gradually. 
Chamomile essence, which is about 0.8 to 1 percent of the plant, is extracted by distillation; its color is light blue when it is fresh but later it changes to brown yellow. 
There exist two kinds of chamomile essence, Roman and German. Two of them are useful for the skin. They can be used for dry, sensitive and irritable skins. It has strong fragrance and its taste is hot.

Cosmetic Use:

Essence of chamomile oil is used in shampoos, perfumes and creams. It is tranquilizer, anti irritation and freshener. It is used in hygienic products, such as mouth washing liquids, shampoos, hair colors, and creams for healing sunburn. It is used as moisturizer as well. 
It is used for perfuming creams and lotions. It is also used in drinks, breads and confectionary. 
Chamomile lightens the color of blond hair and makes it shiny.

Medical features:

Chamomile is used as relief of pain, fever and headache caused by grippe. It may cause nausea if it is consumed much. Chamomile is also effective in curing Insomnia, intestine inflammation, and problems of digestive system in children. It has good effects on inflammation of skin, pimples, and nettle-rash. 
Chamomile tea may cause skin allergies or Anaphylaxis. 
Today, Chamomile is being examined in many fields of science such as Botany, Cultivation, Chemistry and Pharmacology. Results of different studies prove anti-inflammation effect of chamomile which is due to its essences. 
Chamomile was used as anti-inflammation and anti-spasm in traditional medicine. 

Prescription for painful joints:

Dried Chamomile flower   1500 gr.
Terbantin Essence   125 gr.


Chop chamomile and wet it in water. Then add Terbantin essence and mix them. Essence stays on the surface of the liquid, gained liquid is light blue which is used as a relief for painful joints.

Healthy skin:

Lotions made of chamomile are effective on sensitive skin, they freshens and revitalizes skin cells. 
Chamomile is used in industry of cosmetics. 
Chamomile acts as anti-spasm because of its Flanoids and Cumarins. 
Boiled Chamomile contains only 10 to 15 percent essence which is anti-inflammation
